Black History Month 2020

I really wanted to do something cool for Black history month this year so me and the homies at Identity decided to do Black characters or people that have inspired us through the years. It's been really fun so far and Steel was my first submission. A character that I love and was the lead character in the first comic I ever bought from a real live comic book store.

Convention season is right around the corner so while it's on my mind I thought this would be a great time to drop my convention schedule for 2020. I'm calling it the reunion tour because the last couple of years I have really had to scale back because of health issues. Now I'm healthy and ready to rock, so conventions here I come!

Making Moves

Superman in color
Superman rough
This Superman was the first thing I drew when I got back on my feet from surgery. Superman is kind of my totem. He makes me feel strong. The drawing just jumped right out of me. I think the colored version misses the mark a bit. I think I'll come back to this one at some point and see if I can bring back some of the energy from the sketch

Happy New Year!

Superman concept illustration for animated pitch

Happy New Year everyone! 2019 has come and gone and just like everyone else, I had so many ups, downs and milestones. Work was a huge challenge this year, but i would like to think I've grown from the experience. My biggest milestone was getting a brand new kidney and getting a fresh start with my health. @pengpengart @vickeygaylord @likefifty2cardswentout all helped me get back on my feet after the surgery along with my in-laws. I couldn't ask for a better family.
2020 is gonna start with a bang. There are a lot of new things in the works and I'm really looking forward to sharing all of it with you guys. Thanks for making this a great year!

A Job For Superman

I gotta admit. It's tough trying to keep all my social media current while working full time. When I get home from the studio, I am just wiped out. So far I'm still on top though. I've been posting regularly and making good growth in my work. It may be small things, but I am actually making myself better by pushing to get things done and experimenting with new techniques.

These 2 handsome guys are part of a pitch I did for a Superman show that didnt go anywhere. I still feel pretty strongly about it so I might just keep moving forward and refining the pitch and taking another shot at showing it to WB at some later date. So for now you guys can enjoy the art and get a glimpse of what I had planned for the man of steel

CRISIS

The Flash, Supergirl, Green Arrow of the CW's Arrowverse
Cw's the Crisis on Infinite Earths has me so excited! I've seen the first 2 episodes now and I can't wait for more. Brandon Routh as Kingdom Come Superman is amazing. I get chills seeing him in the suit again. I can feel another fan art brewing in my brains right now !

Full Time All The Time

Super Friends line up

I I have a really great idea for a Super Friends reboot. This is more or less the art style I would go with. A really exaggerated fun looking show for kids that adults can enjoy as well.

SUPER POWERS

Superman vs Lex Luthor
It's Monday, and I think that makes it a perfect time to post some Superman fan art. I'm always inspired by the art from the classic Super Powers toy line. Not incidentally, if I ever get to design a Superman show this would be the style.

THe MANDALORIAN

The Mandalorian

Disney Plus is out and it's been consuming my days and nights! All that classic content at my finger tips has been amazing! my wife and I have watched classic features and toons from the back catalog. I've started watching the 90's X-MEN cartoon and it still holds up for me. I love it. Last night we watched the MANDALORIAN and we loved it. It was fantastic to see some new STAR WARS and really enjoy it. The show was swiming around in my head all day so this warm up had to burst out of my brain!

Line it Up

Joker, Harley, Catwoman, Bane
I'm a big Superman fan, but I like Batman too and I gotta say, Bats has a great line up of baddies to punch. I've been leaning into design more recently and I was inspired to take a shot at this bad bunch. I wanted to stay true to what I love about each of these characters while, hopefully, adding my own flair. I feel like I'm not quite happy with Harley. I think her head is probably a little too big, but I love how the Joker came out. Really creepy!

X-DUDES

X-MEN with an 80s flair

I have recently been collecting the 90's versions of the X-Men from Marvel Legends. I love the figures and they have gotten me all nostalgic for the old school X-cartoon from the 90's. I loved that show! I would wake up every Saturday morning super excited to watch the drama unfold.  That's why I sketched up this piece with Wolverine and Cyclops. This image was just was just clawing it's way out of me!

The BATMAN

batman and robin
I'm really working to bring more story to my art lately. For me that means less pin up art and more story driven pieces that say something, along with more interesting camera angles. This piece is all about my love for the classic timeless idea of batman. I wanted to convey a version of the characters that always resonated with me. A lighter dark knight hearkening back to his look from the 80s

Begin Again

Superman story illustration sketch
After far too long I've come back to my blog. The last couple of years I have focused primarily on building my instagram presence without giving much attention to my other digital outlets. After having a huge life change with a kidney transplant, I've decided that moving forward in animation and comics is going to require me to deliver more in order to be visible to a wider audience. Now that the surgery is done and I'm recovering and have more energy than I have in years it's time to make moves.

This piece was one of the first things I drew after the surgery so I decided it should be the first thing I share. The first of many!

Challenge Day

I really loved Black Panther! It was an amazing movie. I knew intellectually that I have always needed to see myself reflected in entertainment and that our culture is severely lacking in representation, but to finally have it on the big screen in such spectacular fashion was incredible. A huge thank you to everyone involved in bringing this film to life.

I created this illustration because I just couldn't not draw them! Please enjoy this art and I hope it brings you back to the joy you felt when you saw the movie.

Later!
Black Panther, Shuri, and Kill Monger

Teen Titans Remix

Sometimes you gotta do something for fun. Worked on this on and off for a few weeks as a coo down after work. I just let myself go and this is what came out. I really like it and I'm encouraged to do more stuff for  and not let everything be about work.

Lil Devil Animatic

Ive been hard at work at Warner Bros. making cartoons, but recently I've been finding time to create for myself. This is an animatic Ive cooked up as a portfolio piece as well as a sample of what a Lil Devil cartoon might look like.

So Enjoy!

Kingdom Come

In honor of recording an episode of a podcast with super cool dude Eric Esquivel I wanted to post this Superman sketch I did over the weekend. I really couldn't sleep on Saturday night and this sketch got me through.

NOW

This is a piece that was inspired by the new Duck tales show. I was blown away at how much I loved the first 2 episodes. I started some sketches at work, then once I got home a wanted to keep the magic going and keep fighting through my artist block. This is the first piece I've drawn for myself in quite a while and the first thing I've drawn that I really liked in months!

Now that I'm breaking through the artist block I expect to be posting more frequently as well. Here's hoping!
