Holiday Commission update and FVZ number 9

So December is here and it's flying by already. There is so much going on right now that my head is spinning. It's all good things and it's great to be busy working doing stuff that I love and would probably still do even if it wasn't my job.

Any how, My wife ,Peng and I are having our Holiday Commission sale and it is still going strong so if u are in the mood for a commission for yourself or as a present for someone else now is the time to hit me up. The sale will continue until December 17th. For more info just click here or just e-mail me @ jerry@identitycomics.com
My prices are at half price until then so hit me up.

SO the big news right now is that my first Fanboys vs Zombies Cover is about to hit stores next week. I couldn't be more excited. Seeing my art on a cover in a comic shop is a dream come true. SO next week get on out there and pick up the book. you won't be disappointed.

So in honor if my first cover I'm posting the cover to issue 9 here and also sharing a look at the cover to issue 10 (I did that one too!) Again, with Awesome colors by Gabriel Casata. That guy is off the hook.

More Fanboys Vs Zombies

So issue 8 came out this month and I wanted to share some of the art process that I go through. I always think it's cool to see how other artists make their work happen so I figure I should join in the fun.

FVZ #8 pg 2 rough by Me
The script just said that Gorillas had broken out into a fight with the zombies and I was like ok, what is the grossest way I can come up with to kill a zombie. This just popped into my head. Later as I was working up the sketch it reminded me of that classic Hulk vs Wolverine page and I decided to really go for an homage I guess.
FVZ pg 2 inks by Me
The inks are pretty straight forward I think. I wanted to experiment with spot blacks because I don't use them that much and I figured I would give it a shot.

FVZ #8 pg 2 colors Mirka Andolfo
I think Mirka did a great job on the colors.

FVZ #8 pg 3 rough by Me

This page was all about a dope action splash for Amanda. She is one of my favorite characters and I just wanted her diving in head first to kick some butts

FVZ issue # 8 pg 3 inks by me

When I got to the inks on this one I realized I really wasn't feeling Amanda's face so I had to rework it to make her more on model. I loved drawing the drooling zombi in the forground.

FVZ #8 page 3 colors Mirka Andolfo
Again, I think Mirka did a great job on colors.

Don't forget my Holiday sale is in full swing. All my commission rates are cut in half. Now is a great time to hit me up if you are in the market for some original work. You can find more info here  .

Thanks for stopping by!

Cover to FVZ #9 art by ME! colors by Gabriel Cassata

Finished inks to FVZ#9 art by Me!

the WV POP Con was crazy fun this past weekend. West Virginia really came out and showed us love. It was great meeting everyone and getting to chat with fans of Fanboys Vs Zombies. One of my favorite parts of the weekend had to be hanging out at the local pub for the afterparty Saturday night. If u ever find your self in WV go check out the Morgan Town Bury and treat yourself to a Triple.

Time is pretty tight right now so I wont have time to post the photos from the show yet, but once we get back from NY I'll have plenty to share.

Speaking of NY the New York Comic Con is just a couple days away and we r full steam ahead getting set to rock the Big Apple. Our tables are P3 and P4 in the Artist Alley . Plus I am doing a NYCC exclusive promo give away. Come by the table and say "WRECKING CREW 4 LYFE!" and I'll sketch up  a zombified version of you. Just one sketch per person please. So come on out and hang out with the me and the crew. The entire ID team will be in attendance PENG, FLASH, DOMO, and me. We'll have prints, books, commissions, and we'll be ready to rock. So come on through. It's gonna be off te hook!

Last of the Sketch Cards

Sketch cards for March of Dimes charity auction. He-Man and throwback TMNT

Walking Dead sketch cards by me

More Walking Dead cards by me

These are some sketch cards that I never got around to posting. Hope u all dig em.

Over the last few years I have worked on a bunch of sketch card sets. Sketch cards really played a big part in boosting my career as a pro artist. It gave me a chance to really get my work in the hands of fans and to work on properties that I have always loved and dreamed to work on. I have had the opportunity to draw every Marvel and Star Wars character I could ever want to draw, plus quite a few properties that I never thought I would draw.

The only down side had been that the pay for doing sketch card work really isn't great and you have to do so many of them that it's hard to make a sketch card gig worth while as far as keeping bills payed. The last couple of sets I worked on really came down to the wire to get them done and the stress just gets to be too much.

So for now, I'm gonna be saying goodbye to working on any big sketch card projects. It's kinda sad because there are still a lot of cool projects happening that I would like to work on, but with all the other projects I'm working on it just doesn't make sense.

I still have a bunch of Artist Proof cards from most of the more recent projects I've worked on so if anyone out there is looking for an original sketch card commission just give me a shout. Other than that though I'm gonna have to call it quits.

Vs Zombies and Cons

Work has been pretty much non stop for the last 3 weeks or so. It's been great to have so much going on and so many cons to hit up. so far I think me and the ID Crew have done about 12 cons and we just added 2 more. The WV POP CON, Morgantown, WVOctober 6-7, 2012 that me and my team will be guesting at (the show really looks like it's gonna be a blast and I can't wait!). We also just added the
Annapolis Comic-Con | Annapolis, MD, October 27, 2012 another home town show. I can't get enough of the local shows. It's really great to hang out and talk shop with my peeps from around the way.

Batman and Robin!
Speaking of cons (u gotta love that segway right?!) the Baltimore con was totally off the hook. Me and the crew had the best show we have ever had. Huge thank you to everyone who stopped by to pick up a comic, print, or commission. You guys all rock. I also got to hang out at the BOOM! Studios booth and meet Ross Richie for the first time and sign some con exclusive versions of FANBOYS VS ZOMBIES #1.

All the while Pennie, Flash and I battled to get the latest issue of FVZ out on time. It was a battle of epic proportions, but we made it and I think this issue tops em all so far. Flash and I actually split up the art chores this issue and he rocked out some classic stuff. prepare to get your shoes knocked off.

Kicks of Steel

Heroes in a half shell (plus cap)

And last but not least  the love of my life (PENG) got me some brand new kicks fresh from Krypton to keep me extra fly at this years remaining cons. Yup, I'm a lucky guy. She also found it in her heart to indulge my love of TMNT and got me a set of the figures based on the new animated series. They are lean green fighting machines! Yes, I know I'm a nerd.

Thanks for tuning in folks. More art and news to come!

I Can Give as Good as I Get

Fan art by me inspired by Superman 3
all finished up!

So all four of the original Superman movies came on back to back yesterday and I caught a good bit of Superman 3 and got inspired. I know a lot of folks don't really get into that one, but I think It is a great flick with a ton of great moments. my favorite part of the movie is when Superman splits into Superman and Clark and they fight it out at the dump. It's just great on film. so any how I did this sketch yesterday and I had a few spare seconds today so I did a quick color treatment. I'm really hoping I can finish this one up the way I see it in my head. (EDIT: I totally stayed up waaaay to late finishing this up. I wanted it to almost look animated. so there ya go all done!)

There is plenty of other stuff going on right now. I'm doing a few covers and FVZ is in full swing. The Baltimore Comic Con is this weekend so look for me and the ID Crew (Peng, Flash, and Domo) to be set up and selling books and prints. I'll also be doing signings at the BOOM! Studios booth so bring your comics I would love to sign em up!

I'll also have a new Green Lantern print for sale. I really tried hard to get all the important ones in there!

Summer Time

FVZ #5 pg 1 thumb
FVZ #5 pg 1ink (inks by me)
FVZ #5 pg 2 thumb

FVZ #5 pg 2 ink(inks by Penelope Gaylord)

FVZ #5 pg 3 thumb
FVZ #5 pg 3 ink (inks by Bryan Turner

This summer has been going a mile a minute. Working on Fanboys vs Zombies and getting out to cons has been amazing. I really can't thank all of you who are supporting the book enough. It really means a lot to me that u guys are picking up the book each month. So I thought I would post some of the process of how I handle my page work. The above art is my thumb sketches that I do at 8 1/2 x11 and the fully inked finished art to match.

Right now I would have to say I'm as busy as I have ever been. Working as a pro artist since I was 18 has really given me time to build contacts and it's kinda funny sometimes where the work opportunities come from. For example last week I was contacted by a client I did some caricature work for maybe 10 years ago to do some graphics work. That, plus all the comic work and caricature events have kept me knee deep in art.

The Baltimore Comic Con is coming up next month and I'm cooking up some new stuff for the show. I'm really looking forward to being back in Bmore and seeing some old friends and hopefully making some new ones.

Philly Con! and a New Superman!

fun Superman fan art I did with a costume I made up

It's been forever since the ID crew and I have done a Philly con so it really feels great to be going back. Peng-Peng, Flash, and I will be at tables 2003 and 2005 the entire weekend so if you are gonna be at the show we would love to say hi. We'll be doing the usual, signing comics, doing commissions and pretty much chatting it up with all the folks who come by the table.

And because I know all you nice folks can never get enough of my Superman art I figured I would drop the above art on yall. This is another costume idea I had for Supes in a more traditional comic style I've been flirting with.

See ya in Philly!

Normal Stuff

Avengers sketch by me!

Back into my normal grind after a really brutal week of deadline smashing. I don't have too much to report except to say that Free Comic Book Day was Amazing. It was so much fun to hang out, sign some books, and generally be around cool peeps.

Anyhow, after finally having a chance to see the Avengers I have decided I need to get my but in gear and do a big Avengers piece.

This is the sketch and I'm hoping it turns out great!

Later!
